Whether or not former president Barack Obama or the new president Donald Trump have a passion for cars remains to be seen. However, what will be seen is the fact that our new Commander in Chief will be riding around in one of the most high-class vehicles on the planet – an all new presidential limo that will be a substantial upgrade over the last generation Beast Obama rode around in.
Now, don’t feel bad if you’re not familiar with it, it’s not like every day we see these kinds of things. However, to bring you up to speed, let us introduce you to the Cadillac limousine called “The Beast”– tasked with moving America’s President to anywhere he wishes to go.
The Beast is true to its name, a car that is insanely well protected and built to keep its presidential occupants safe at any price. Armor plating and bulletproof glass are just the tip of the iceberg, The Beast has countless other safety features that make it hard to imagine what kind of upgrades will be made to Trump’s new limo.
Even though it’s being put into retirement this year as President Trump gets his new model, let’s take a moment to look back at the old Beast with 20 cool things you didn’t know about the presidential limo.
20. It Has A 6.5-liter diesel engine
Who would have ever thought that a 6.5-liter diesel engine would make that much of a difference? Well, it does, especially in the presidential limousine. The Beast gets all of its power from its 6.5-liter diesel engine. Not only that, the whole thing is fitted with a supercharger. This supercharger is amazing because it helps to haul this powerhouse of a limousine around town or wherever the president wants to go, and has enough jump to get him out of harm’s way in a hurry. In spite of this vastly powerful motor, the car’s top speed is not that fast. It only goes about 60 mph. Also, it takes no more than 15 seconds to get to this peak owing to its weight.
19. It weighs a staggering 14,000 pounds
Looks can be deceiving. On the outside looking in, the presidential limousine does not look like it would weigh that much. Would you believe it if we told you that it’s got some mad pounds on it? Well, it does. This is not a lightweight vehicle by any stretch of the imagination. It is founded on a GM truck framework and weighs an astounding 14,000 pounds. That is like the weight of an elephant if not more. The Rolls-Royce Phantom, to put that in context, one of the heaviest cars on the road, weighs a measly 5,600 pounds in contrast. This is why the Obamobile just averages only about 8 mpg.
18. It has its own airplane
Can you imagine a presidential limousine having its own airplane? Who could, right? But it does, and it’s kind of cool. In fact, the Secret Service hauls it around in a C-17 Globemaster transport plane. It tows The Beast, a second limo, and a deeply steel-clad Chevrolet Suburban communications car any time the President is going on a trip or just a business venture. Roadrunner is what they call The Suburban. It is said to be a rolling communications place of work directly connected to a military satellite – hence the SATCOM roof draped to its top.
17. Its Glass is five-inches thick
The presidential limousine has some interesting glass that you probably won’t find on conventional vehicles. Most cars that we know of have thin glass. However, it’s not true with the Beast. It has glass that is not only thick but sturdy. Did you know that the presidential limousine has glass that is five-inches thick? Not only that, the front driver’s window opens. It opens for a real purpose. Part of this purpose is to permit the driver to talk to secret service agents that are typically running alongside. In some case, it is even used to pay a toll. The car is likewise hermetically closed to protect it from any chemical attack. Sometimes people can get a little crazy.
16. It Is Beyond Armored
There is not a better bulletproof car with windows on the planet than The Beast. Its armor silver-plating is told to be 8 inches in dense. Also, its doors are not light weight. They are quite thick. The Beast’s doors weigh as much as those on a Boeing 757 airplane. Five-inch-thick bulletproof windows have at any rate five layers to put a discouragement on any struggle by subversives. And those gigantic, bus-size Goodyear tires are Kevlar-armor-plated run-flats capable of keeping the presidential limousine on the road for quite some distance if necessary. The car is insulated like a tank to protect it from bombs.
15. It’s exceptionally well-furnished
There is so much going on inside the vehicle, that you’d think it was getting ready for World War III. All you have to do is pop open the presidential limousine’s trunk, and it is loaded with all sorts of goodies. It has everything they need. You’ll find things from firefighting gear and oxygen boilers to a cache of blood that’s the president’s blood type. There are tear gas canisters, shotguns and grenade launchers, combined into this mysterious limousine. Since President John F. Kennedy’s death, the Secret Service has learned a lot, so they try to stay on top of things to keep everybody safe.
14. It isn’t actually a Cadillac
The Beast is not like any other vehicle you know. Different from any presidential state car previously, The Beast does not have that much in common with a regular production automobile. Its transmission and diesel engine are based on those utilized in the Chevrolet Kodiak, a solid commercial car formerly sold as everything from a U-Haul to a dump truck. Some typical trim pieces include tail lights from the now-discontinued Cadillac STS and headlamps from an Escalade. All of these keep it looking indefinitely Cadillac-like. It is clear that on the inside there is this comfortable feel to it.
13. It’s Bomb Resistant
The presidential limousine is made so that it can resist weapons. Now, it cannot get any cooler than that. Sounds like the Batmobile from Batman or some Sci-Fi vehicle from the future. Being protected from bombs is no laughing matter. However, the closest things to bombs being thrown at it were when George Bush Jr. got debris thrown at it during his inauguration. The underside is armor-plated with a Kevlar mat to defend the Beast from bomb attacks as well. So, it is safe to say that the presidential limousine is not just a tough vehicle, but it won’t be blown to smithereens anytime soon.
12. There’s Only Room For Seven People
Sorry to rain on your parade. Did you think it would have more? The Beast only holds three passengers aboard at the least – the president’s lead Secret Service protective agent in the front passenger seat, the driver, and apparently the president himself. Nevertheless, four added seats in the back are accessible – three backward facing areas on a seat and one area next to the president for a visitor. There’s also a folding desk splitting up the president from his guest’s spot. Surprisingly, the commander’s bench is covered in a dark blue cloth instead of leather (even though there’s more than enough of the hide on board).
11. It has Holes in the Bumper
Did you know it has holes in the bumper? Well, you do now. Anyway, they are not just regular holes, and they’re not there for decoration either. They are there for safety reasons. As we mentioned earlier, it’s all about making sure the President is protected at all times, regardless the measures to do it. With that said, there are two holes in the front bumper that can release tear gas and fire smoke bullets if needed. Now, isn’t that awesome? A limousine that is almost built like a tank and ready for war. It doesn’t get any better than that, or does it?
10. It features Night Vision Cameras
Talk about James Bond type stuff. This limousine has it all. It’s not afraid of the dark either. Nope, it has these special night vision cameras that allow it to detect hidden objects at night. The presidential limousine also has an infrared video system that is amazing. Why? Well, it can go through anything, anywhere, at any time. The driver uses these night vision cameras to drive through smoke and fog. It is also used to shine a light on anything that might be trying to attack the vehicle. These night vision cameras are like 3-D cameras that can see through anything. The Beast almost sounds like it’s a comic book superhero. Except that it is a vehicle.
9. The meaning of The Flags
Cadillac One most of the time flies just two flags. They are the Presidential Standard and the American flag, which are usually lit up at night with special LEDs. These LEDs are bright and can be seen from a significant distance. When a President is on a state appointment, the Presidential Standard is swapped by the flag of the nation he is going to see. Isn’t that way past cool? A flag for every nation around the world. They do this to show respect for that country. So, next time you see the presidential limousine in your neck of the woods, give it a look!
8. It holds many secrets
Who doesn’t like secrets? Especially if they’re good. Well, it appears as if the Presidential limousine has a few of its own. And guess what? A secret would not be a secret if we knew what it was, right? Exactly, so therefore, sorry to spoil the fun but nobody knows what’s in the certain parts of the vehicle. With that being said, it’s still a secret. Maybe President Trump will expose the secret to the world sometime during his reign as Commander in Chief, but then again maybe not. At the end of the day, whatever’s in that mysterious limousine is probably a secret that is best left untold.
7. The Beast is never alone
Did you know that the Secret Service has some rare Beast-like cars? Even though it’s not acknowledged whether they’re all functionally matching, quite a few of them look a lot more like a Cadillac DTS than they do The Beast. Also, the other limousines are used for high-status foreign bureaucrats and VIP visitors when they’re coming into Washington, D.C. It isn’t acknowledged why the Secret Service interchanges among presidential cars, however. Furthermore, the President from time to time travels in a weightily steel-clad Chevrolet Suburban or an adapted Prevost bus acknowledged as Ground Force One as opposed to The Beast.
6. It runs on diesel
The presidential limousine isn’t just run on regular fuel like the rest of the cars in the fleet. The Beast is supposed to use a Duramax diesel engine. This is a motor that is closely linked to that included under the hood of GMC and Chevrolet’s full-size heavy-duty pickup trucks. So, why does it use diesel? Aside from the toughness connected with diesel motors, the fuel has a low instability that decreases the risk of it detonating if ignited – and it can be discovered everywhere in the world, different from fuel that is high quality unleaded.
5. Its driver is a Good chauffeur
It appears that The Beast isn’t the only star when it comes to transporting the POTUS. The chauffeur has a little bit of celebrity status himself. Despite the fact, The Beast has more in common with a school bus than a sports vehicle. Its extremely-trained drivers can complete constricted J-turns and other law enforcement agency-style evasion methods if a situation so happened to go south. The Secret Service chauffeurs have endured extensive training in an isolated location (believed to be an army base) with contributions from test drivers and GM engineers. It is said that the chauffeur drives the vehicle like a pro.
4. It has many Creature comforts
If you are worried that the Presidents have an annoying ride, don’t be, because they have plenty of goodies to keep them occupied. Inside, Trump isn’t deprived of his creature luxuries; a 10-disc CD player is among some of those goodies (we expect a significant upgrade for President Trump’s new ride), in addition to classy automated communications with direct phones to the White House just in case of any emergencies. Now, what would be a ride without the internet, huh? Well, there isn’t one of course, but it is loaded with an interior Internet system. So, not bad for a stroll in the presidential limousine and certainly never a dull moment.
3. Its Defense systems are impressive
If you plan on attacking the president while he is cruising in the presidential limousine, think again. It’s not just well guarded by the Secret Servicemen, but it is also armed. The vehicle is loaded with more than enough of defense systems include a pump-action shotgun in a section alongside the driver. Yes, it is safe to say that the president will be well taken care of if things get a little crazy. This shotgun is always there, and it should be noted that the driver is not afraid to use it. Fortunately, there hasn’t had to be any of those in a while.
2. The Specs Do Not Impress
The specs are not the best thing about the presidential limousine, but it is interesting to talk about it. Loaded with armor and amenities and dragging around a supposed 20,000 lbs worth of Beast, the diesel engine isn’t a space rocket to say the least. Coming to around 60 mph from a total stop takes around 15 seconds. Nevertheless, it needs to be noted that this is not just about any new automobile we can bring to mind, and the big automobile’s top speed is alleged to max out at a top speed of 60 mph. Furthermore, all that weight makes it a feeder, drinking fuel at a degree of 8 mpg.
1. It’s being retired
Every year they send it back and then get a new one. Even though President Trump rode in the current iteration of The Beast for his swearing in on January 20, 2017, people will see the presentation of an all-new presidential limousine in the upcoming months. It’s obvious all presidents have different personalities and different tastes. So, they trade them in after their reign is up and the new Commander in Chief will get a new one. Yes, of course, they do change it up to fit who they are as an individual. They bring things to the limousine that will make the new president comfortable when they are riding around in it.
